Armodafinil is an enantiopure drug and is the active R- enantiomer of Modafinil. Enantiopure drugs are those that contain only one of the enantiomers available, R- or S-. What this means is that Modafinil already contains Armodafinil. However, Armodafinil does not contain Modafinil, it is only half of the racemic mixture in Modafinil.
The R- enantiomer is longer acting and is the one most responsible for the effects of Modafinil. Since the S- enantiomer is not as strong, Armodafinil’s dosage is therefore lower. Most standard doses of Armodafinil are 150 mg compared to Modafinil’s 200 mg. Armodafinil takes longer to reach its peak than Modafinil does.
